RI Rats Baseball League
Baseball Operations
We are a non-profit baseball group designed to operate on a low budget. At times, a game can be a bunch of friends choosing sides. When short on players, those present can run some drills. Batting practice, too, is more fun and economical as a group. Participation numbers are not a driving force of the League. The expectation is to offer an alternative organized baseball experience. Volunteers are the core of the operation. Player Fees are nominal to cover liability insurance and other base costs.
Streamlining the operational process relies upon a simplified online presence. Players and parents can securely access all of the services. Signing up entails the creation of an Account. Fill out all fields as this file serves as part of the Emergency Contact Portal. After Logging In, the Store and Google Calendar are initially blocked by default. A password will be provided to you to access the services. The account Log In will remember you in subsequent visits. The password may change periodically.
A Qr Code on the rirats.com Home page makes it easy to promote our product. You'll notice the Call for Umpires. The use of in-house officiating is both cost effective and instructional. Training players adds another dimension to their game. We like sharp looking Umpires with a confident style. The game is administered by a Teams Manager who oversees the proceedings. In game, each team is led by a Player Coach. The Rats and Chefs are obvious rivals.
RI Rats players are free agents. The affiliations between players and team preference is left to take on a life of its own. Competing with or against each other is as easy as scheduling yourself as you see fit. This loose affiliation model enables flexibility for the players to play part or full time. The Spring and Fall Sessions may consist of 15 games, followed by playoffs. Each Session is rolled out in three parts. The three 5 Game Sets allow for staggering of game availability over time to give others a chance to play.
For the most part, the RI Rats Baseball League uses the NEAAU and RI Interscholastic Rules. Our League exceptions are referred to as “Rat Rules” which are expected to evolve over time. The pregame Umpire meeting is where the intent of possible use is stated. Rule variations are mutually agreed upon. Post game, the Player Coaches and Umpires briefly review the game performance. Our goal is to Improve the operation. Innovation comes from collaborative efforts.
Player style and readiness is important to the image of the League. A snappy, confident style is appealing to watch. Trick plays are entertaining and encouraged, even if they don't work out. When they are organic, the situational and spontaneous play enhances the game. The main object is to have fun. The League may adopt uniforms at some point. Players are asked to wear their favorite uniform as to an All Star game.
The entire Session schedule is posted on the website through Google Calendar. To participate go to the Store. Pay the Session Roster Fee of $15 and choose the games you want to play. The Dugout Dues are $12 per game. The Store will be replenished with the next set after the fifth game is completed. Volunteer Umpires can sign up online. Choose the dates, U1 or U2 and Submit request.
We streamline the process so you can focus on playing.
